El Escoces Volante

Norrel Robertson is a Scottish Master of Wine who landed in Calatayud almost by chance after making wines in different parts of the world. His wines transmit his character, eclectic and innovative, and at the same time, they are very well imprinted with the essence of Calatayud, its old Garnacha vines and its high altitude slate soils.

An innovative project in Calatayud

Norrel Robertson, the Flying Scotsman, arrived in Calatayud in 2003 looking for a well-connected place that would allow him to continue his work as an oenological advisor in different viticultural projects in Spain and the south of France.

In this winery, the winemaking process is based on cement and the use of barrels is being progressively reduced in most of their wines. They advocate destemming the Garnacha grapes, gentle extractions, generally with punch-downs, and working with lees.

El Escocés Volante has 13 hectares of old Garnacha vines between 45 and 110 years old located in the surroundings of the municipality of Villarroya de la Sierra, in addition to seven hectares of newly planted vines, which are on their way to achieving organic certification.

Its wines have made a name for themselves, both for their casual names and labels, and for being able to emphasise the freshness of a variety, the Garnacha, without renouncing its full fruit potential.
