The Winery

Pago de Carraovejas

On the slopes of Carraovejas next to the Castillo de Peñafiel, what was then a modest winery was born and in 1991, its first vintage, it harvested just 70,000 kg of wine....

Descripción de Pago De CarraovejasDescription of Pago De Carraovejas

Pago de Carraovejas was born in the Ribera del Duero, specifically in the town of Peñafiel. It is produced by the Pago de Carraovejas winery, one of the most popular wineries of the moment. This crianza wine is made from 93% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), 4% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Merlot. The Pago de Carraovejas winery has been characterised for breaking away from the trend of standardising wines according to their ageing time, achieving great wines that, regardless of their ageing time, can compete with the 'greats' on the market. The blend of Tinto Fino (Tempranillo), Cabernet sauvignon and Merlot combined with its short ageing gives it the qualities of a wine that is expressive, open, powerful and delicate at the same time. A delightful accompaniment to red meats, duck or a good cured cheese.

Elaboración Pago De CarraovejasMaking notes Pago De Carraovejas

Notas del Viñedo

Viñas de Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are divided by different slopes of the Valley and in the Páramo, located at more than 900 meters of altitude, providing the characteristics of tertiary geology. On the surface there are limestones, with the presence of clays and sandstones. They are austere soils, which submit to the vines to an effort by self-regular performance and give the best of themselves.

Making notes

UVA collected by hand after a first selection in the vineyard. Step by cold camera and selection table. The must moved by gravity and fermented with autochthonous yeasts of the farm. Thrusting in American oak barrels and French oak for 12 months.
