Terras Gauda

Bodegas Terras Gauda is one of the most important wineries for understanding the modern evolution of Galician wine, and especially the identity of the Rías Baixas DO.

Founded in the late 1980s, Terras Gauda was created with a very clear vision: to highlight the potential of native grape varieties from the Val do Rosal and to show that Galicia could produce white wines with complexity, depth, and ageing potential—far beyond the simple, early-drinking Albariños that once dominated the market.

The winery’s philosophy is built on three strong pillars:

Research and vineyard knowledge: Terras Gauda was a pioneer in studying clones, soils, and micro-parcels, working mainly with Albariño, Caíño Blanco, and Loureiro, varieties that have become the hallmark of the estate.
Precision Atlantic viticulture: vineyards located near the Miño River and the Atlantic Ocean, with strong maritime influence, high rainfall, and predominantly granite soils. This environment brings freshness, salinity, and natural tension to the wines.
Careful, technical winemaking: temperature-controlled fermentations, extensive use of stainless steel, and selective lees ageing in some wines to add texture and volume without losing freshness.

Terras Gauda is also part of a wider wine group and has expanded beyond Rías Baixas with high-quality projects such as Pittacum in Bierzo (Mencía), Quinta Sardonia in the Duero valley, and its involvement with Compañía de Vinos Telmo Rodríguez, always maintaining a strong focus on origin and quality.

In the glass, Terras Gauda wines are easy to recognize: aromatic yet precise, fresh, structured, and highly gastronomic, with an ageing capacity that often surprises for Atlantic white wines.
