Baileys

The world's first cream liqueur

The Baileys story began in Dublin, Ireland, in 1974 when David Dand created a new drink, a guilt-free luxury. Inspired by the winds of change blowing at the time, he devised an innovative and indulgent liqueur.

To give shape to his dream, he assembled a team of technical experts. Together they embarked on a mission to create the recipe for Bailey's, a supremely delicious blend of two of Ireland's finest products, rich cream and the finest whiskey.

In the ingenious spirit of the Irish, the first version of the recipe saw the light of day in a simple kitchen blender, but despite the rudimentary equipment, the result was incredible. However, achieving the perfect recipe was not easy as getting the cream and whiskey to sit in the bottle without separating is a tricky business.

David and his team were so determined to achieve the perfect result that they never gave up and after three years of testing, they struck lucky and achieved the ideal blend of the two ingredients and created a unique and sublime liqueur that is loved the world over.

The first Bailey's was released in 1974 as the first Irish Cream on the market. The liqueur's name comes from a restaurant owned by John Chesterman, who allowed the liqueur's creators to make use of it. The R.A. Bailey's signature is a signature inspired by Bailey's Hotel in London.
