Crissier, California, Paris, Las Vegas, Kyoto, New York and Shanghai are some of the cities that boast the most expensive and exclusive restaurants in the world. But do you know which is the most expensive restaurant in the world? You won't believe it, but it's not in any big city

Each has its own unique appeal, from virtual experiences in virtual reality to visual and audio tours meticulously crafted by the chef.

Ready to check some of them out? Let's get started!

11. Hotel de Ville, Crissier, Switzerland

11-course menu for 2 people. 335€ per person

The Hotel de Ville began under the command of chef Benoît Violier. However, a tragic event happened in January 2016, when he passed away due to suicide (according to Swiss media, the reason was bankruptcy due to a scam).

Franck Giovannini, apprentice of Benoît took over from his master and since then has been in charge of the kitchen of this exclusive Swiss restaurant with a tasting menu of 11 dishes including crispy lobster or veal from Canton de Vaud.

It has a superb selection of wines and champagnes. Remember that we recently launched our post on the most expensive champagnes in the world

10. Saison, San Francisco, California, USA

Menu of 8-10 courses for 2 people. 340€ per person

Chef Joshua Skenes commands this restaurant on the American West Coast that has been awarded three Michelin stars despite its youth.

Their cuisine is centred on fire-fired dishes and the use ofseasonal ingredientsThey work directly with fishermen, hunters, gatherers and farmers to source the best produce.

The highlight is that the kitchen and the dining room are in the same space, so you can watch the chefs prepare these exquisite seasonal dishes at all times.

A true experience if you visit San Francisco!

9. Le Meurice Alain Ducasse, Paris, France

5-course menu for 2 people. 354€ per person

Directed by one of France's most prestigious chefs, Alain Ducasse, and with two Michelin stars (having recently lost his third), Le Meurice is located in the romantic city of Paris

8. L'Arpège, Paris, France

12-course menu for 2 people. 362€ per person

Alain Passard is a chef viscerally attached to cooking for 30 years. One of his most emblematic phrases says that "The most beautiful cookbook has been written by nature". With this statement, we can intuit that his cuisine focuses on menus with a fundamental role for vegetables

In addition, this chef places particular emphasis on the use of fire, or as he puts it: "the passion of the flame", and how a dish can completely change its flavour and aroma due to an incorrect use of fire.

His specialities are the hot-chilled egg with maple syrup, sherry vinegar and four spices, and the Sant-Jacques carpaccio chessboard with black truffle.

7. Alain Ducasse au Plaza Athenee, Paris, France

5-course menu for 2 persons. 362€ per person

Alain Ducasse, who we have already discussed in post 9 of this list, runs this restaurant which he speaks of as his favourite place to create his dishes.

The cut of this restaurant is undeniably more modern, without losing the elegant aesthetic that dominates all of this famous chef's establishments.

The restaurant's highlights vary depending on the season, but include the Sanary-sur-Mer octopus with grilled courgette and green fig or the Château de Versailles peas and carrots

6. Guy Savoy, Paris, France

11-course menu for 2 people. 367€ per person

The last French restaurant on the list, and therefore the most expensive in France - yet nowhere near the top spot for the world's most expensive restaurant - is Guy Savoy, which is named after its chef. Some of its most emblematic dishes, apart from the delicious lobster you have in the photo, are the artichoke soup with black truffle, the millefeuille brioche or the truffle butter.

Guy fervently believes that there is no one key dish in French cuisine, but rather the versatility of the region's produce and the seasonality of the dish.

5. Joël Robuchon, Las Vegas, Nevada

18-course menu for 2 persons. 380€ per person

Joël Robuchon is one of the most renowned chefs in the USA and owns several restaurants, but in this case, we will talk about his star restaurant located inside the MGM Grand casino, one of the casinos "stolen" in the famous movie Ocean's Eleven starring Brad Pitt and George Clooney.

This restaurant was awarded in 2009 with three Michelin stars and 5 stars by Forbes Travel Guide, and was defined by The Wine Spectator as one of the best restaurants in the world.

4. Kitcho Arashiyama Honten, Kyoto, Japan

12-course menu for 2 people. 418€ per person

What can we expect from this restaurant? Boiled blue crab dishes with vinegar jelly, Barracuda sushi and much more.

The Kitcho has a style of ceremonial décor with tea rooms, classic tatami and low tables, where you can sample their menu while gazing at the beauty of a classic Japanese garden.

3. Masa, New York, USA

Menu of 20-25 courses for 2 people. 508 per person

Masayoshi Takayama's appreciationfor food began at an early age, while growing up working for his family's fish market in a town in Tochigi Prefecture, Japan.

From hisearly years of delivering fresh sashimi to neighbours on his bicycle, to preparing and grilling hundreds of fish courses to cater weddings in high school, his relationship with food has always been a way of life.

Today, the most expensive restaurant in the United States and in New York is run by this tireless being who has achieved the American dream of reaching his professional goal.

2. Ultraviolet, Shanghai, China

Menu of 20-25 courses for 2 people. 744€ per person

  • Rating on Tripadvisor: 5 stars (212 reviews)
  • Location: No address
  • No Website

Composed of only one table and ten chairs, the Ultraviolet restaurant is one of the most exclusive restaurants in China, as well as the most expensive restaurant in Shanghai.

The Ultraviolet's approach is that you can live a unique experience with 20 dishes and their corresponding 20 acoustic, visual and auditory moments, thanks to the technology that surrounds the room.

One of its highlights for patrons is the fish & chips served to a rainy scene and the music of The Beatles.

While other culinary experiences have come along subsequently, Ultraviolet was the first of its kind, and has been a successful one ever since. A faithful contender for most expensive restaurant in the world, by a long shot!

1. The world's most expensive restaurant: Sublimotion, Ibiza, Spain

13-course menu for 2 people. 1395€ per person

And finally we have arrived at the most expensive restaurant in the world and in Spain. Sublimotion, the brainchild of award-winning Spanish chef Paco Roncero, is located at the Hard Rock Hotel in Ibiza.

To begin, black Range Roversbranded with the Sublimotion logo pick up the 12 diners - yes, there are only 12 chairs per shift - at the door of their hotels to take them straight to the Hard Rock Hotel where the restaurant is located.

However, the doorsof this restaurant are not glamorous, but rather industrial, which is a little out of character for the world's most expensive restaurant (or is it?).

After welcoming you with a ginger gin and tonic and a miso biscuit, "the experience", the room opens up for diners.

A laser projects your name onto your seat, several bottles of Dom Perignon Champagne are opened, and this is where the fantastic journey of 13 sensationally intoxicating dishes begins.

Amidst these dishes you can enjoy a Walford and Caesar salad with 3D virtual reality, or various dishes in a cabaret room, to move on to Asian delicacies in the middle of a street stall in China.

What did you think of this list, did you expect the world's most expensive restaurant to be in Spain, and do you think any of them have "a lot of story?

Leave us a comment and tell us what you think! Would you pay for it?
